Texas landed two of the portal's top transfer backs in Arizona State's Raleek Brown and NC State's Hollywood Smothers. Brown is coming off a 1,000-yard season at 6.13 yards per carry, while Smothers topped six yards per tote in both years with the Wolfpack.
All four of Texas' top running backs left in the transfer portal, with Quintrevion Wisner heading to Florida State, Christian Clark to South Carolina, CJ Baxter to Kentucky and Jerrick Gibson to Purdue.
Ryan Niblett averaged 22.7 yards on 21 punt returns with two touchdowns for Texas in 2025, one of the few established pieces on a rebuilt special teams unit. Freshman Jermaine Bishop Jr. could factor into the return mix as well.
With both starting specialists out of eligibility, Texas brought in Memphis kicker Gianni Spetic and Florida State punter Mac Chiumento. Spetic hit 14 of 17 field goals and every extra point last season, while Chiumento averaged 44 yards per punt.
Second-team All-SEC pick Ryan Wingo is back for his third season in Austin after leading Texas with 834 yards and seven touchdowns. With Coleman drawing coverage, Wingo should see more one-on-one looks than he did a year ago.
Texas added Auburn wideout Cam Coleman, rated the No. 2 player in the transfer portal, to replace roughly a third of its lost receiving production. At 6-3, 204 pounds, he led the SEC in contested catches last season and gives Arch Manning a red-zone target the Longhorns lacked.
