Play Style

Womack plays like a ball-hawking centerfielder who can also drop into the slot. On film he reads the quarterback, drives on throws and plays the ball like a receiver, which explains the interception totals. He is most comfortable matching an assigned man or sitting in a two-high shell with eyes on the passer. Against the run he takes efficient angles and reliable pursuit paths, but he is better as a pursuit tackler than someone who meets blockers head-on. His snaps at WR also make him dangerous after a turnover.

Strengths

• Ball production: 16 career interceptions per 247Sports, including 8 as a junior during a 12-2 MAIS 6A title run. He finishes on the ball instead of just breaking up passes.
• Man-coverage ability rare for a safety: 247's Andrew Ivins singles out his man-coverage skills and compares him to Xavier Watts. He can carry slots and flexed tight ends one-on-one, which makes him usable in nickel packages.
• Instincts and awareness in space: he reads the quarterback's eyes and route combinations quickly, and he takes sharp angles in run support that limit explosive plays.

Areas to Improve

• Taking on blocks and contact courage: 247's evaluation flags playing through blocks as his main development need. Against SEC run games he has to beat pulling guards and climbing tight ends instead of running around them.
• Availability and a full-strength senior-year sample: injuries cost him most of the Tupelo, Jackson Prep and Lamar games. He played 9 games with 26 tackles and 1 INT. That dip reflects missed time, not regression, but it leaves a thin recent sample and makes staying healthy a priority.
• Refining his technique on defense: as a two-way player his coverage has relied on instincts. Consistent footwork in press-bail, disciplined eyes in split-field zone checks, and alignment communication will need polish from college coaching.

College Projection

He is an enrolled true freshman at Mississippi State for 2026, wearing No. 6 and listed as third-string safety behind Jardin Gilbert and Duke Johnson as of September. He is on the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year watch list. Expect special-teams work and rotational or sub-package snaps in 2026, most likely in dime or nickel roles where his man coverage stands out. With a normal jump in strength after a year in the program, he is a realistic starter by 2027 and could be an all-conference-level safety as a third-year player if his play against blocks improves.

NFL teams will value the combination of man coverage, ball production and size (6-1/210+), since safeties who can match tight ends and slots are in demand. A multiple, split-field defense (quarters or Cover 6 with pattern-matching) that uses safeties interchangeably and lets him rotate between deep half and nickel. Schemes that ask the safety to be a primary run-fit box player would play against his current strengths. Mississippi State fits: he's an in-state anchor for Jeff Lebby's highest-rated class, and his coverage versatility lets the staff use him in sub-packages early.
