Play Style

On film he's a decisive, downhill runner with the elusiveness of a quarterback. He plays low and shifty, makes sharp cuts at the line without losing speed, and runs through arm tackles instead of dancing. His read-option background shows up in his patience and in how he manipulates the unblocked defender, and he reads the second level well. He finishes runs forward and handled heavy carry loads (213+ carries as a junior while also throwing). He's more of an efficient, physical rusher than a pure speed back.

Strengths

• Production as a runner: as a junior in 2024 he ran for 1,918 yards and 22 TDs on 9.0 yards per carry (a school single-season record), including a school-record 334 yards against Dickinson. He did this at quarterback against defenses built to stop him in 6A Texas.
• Football IQ from playing quarterback: he threw for 1,864 yards, 18 TDs and 3 INTs as a junior and was District 23-6A overall MVP. ASU coaches specifically credit him with recognizing blitzes and knowing assignments, which speeds up his path to trust in pass protection and third-down packages.
• Contact balance and power: ASU offensive coordinator Marcus Arroyo cited his 'power, burst, the confidence, the balance.' His low pad level and stout frame let him bounce off arm tackles and keep his feet through traffic.
• Quick adjustment to the college game: as an early enrollee he was the only freshman to open a fall-camp practice with the first team. Coach Kenny Dillingham said he has 'caught up to the speed of the game.'
• Adds options to the offense: he can take direct snaps, run wildcat or throw the option pass, which gives a play-caller another package.

Areas to Improve

• Receiving: his high school receiving numbers were minimal (4 catches for 38 yards in the season we have data for) because he was the quarterback. Route running, catching the ball away from his frame and working option routes against linebackers are mostly untested, and they matter for a three-down role.
• Pass protection technique: he knows who to block from his time at QB, but he has little experience actually squaring up and anchoring against a blitzing linebacker. At 5-10 he needs clean technique, not just effort.
• Long speed and home-run ability: his production came through volume, vision and balance. Until he shows he can finish long runs against Power Four pursuit angles, project him as a chain-mover rather than an explosive-play back.
• Adjusting to running back full time: reading blocks from a deeper alignment, pressing the line on zone runs and patience behind the O-line are new habits for a former QB who used to run with the defense already reacting to the option.

College Projection

He's a rotational back now with a clear path to a larger role. ASU uses a running-back-by-committee approach with a deep room. Mack appears to have logged early 2026 snaps, but that stat line is unverified, and taking first-team camp reps as a true freshman shows the staff trusts him. Realistic timeline: situational and change-of-pace carries plus special teams in 2026, meaningful rotation carries in 2027, and a chance to become the lead early-down back by 2027–28 if his receiving and protection develop. The Arizona State RB development pipeline (Aguano, Dillingham) that he cited when he committed fits his path well.

NFL Outlook

He's a Day 3 / priority free agent type of projection right now. His size (5-10/215) is in line with productive NFL backs, and his balance, vision and football IQ are traits scouts value. What will decide his stock is whether he develops into a reliable receiver and pass protector and can post respectable timed speed. ASU's recent RB draft record (Cam Skattebo in the 4th round in 2025, Rachaad White in the 3rd in 2022) shows the system can put a back with this profile in draft conversations if he becomes the primary ball carrier and produces over two seasons.

Best Fit

An RB-by-committee or zone and gap-scheme spread offense that uses its backs in the run game, ideally one creative enough to use his quarterback background in wildcat or direct-snap packages and RB passes. Arizona State under Dillingham and Arroyo, with RB coach Shaun Aguano's track record, fits almost ideally. A patient, one-cut zone system also suits his vision and contact balance.
