Play Style

Brown plays like a running back who lines up at receiver. His film is built on catches near the line (screens, quick outs, jet motion) where he turns upfield immediately and makes defenders tackle a 200-pound ball carrier. He has lined up both outside and in the slot. Downfield he wins with build-up speed and body positioning rather than suddenness, and he attacks the ball in the air on contested throws. He is a physical, tough competitor who seeks out contact after the catch, and he also contributes as a kick and punt returner.

Strengths

• Yards after the catch: he does much of his damage on screens and short throws, runs through arm tackles like a running back, and picks up extra yardage after contact
• Big-play production: 42 catches, 946 yards and 10 TDs in 8 games as a junior (22.5 per catch), then 26-638-9 as a senior on the way to VISSA All-State Offensive Player of the Year
• Contested catches: uses his frame and strength to win in tight windows and on 50/50 throws, which projects well against physical college corners
• Return value: scored multiple return touchdowns in high school, which gives him a way onto the field through special teams early
• Proven over four years: four-year varsity player and two-year captain, with steady growth from sophomore (34-584-5) to junior year and a 32-10 team record plus a 2022 state title (11-0)

Areas to Improve

• Separation through route running: stiff hips limit sharp cuts on out-breaking and comeback routes. He needs footwork and hip-mobility work so he can beat press and man coverage without relying on strength
• Route tree: much of his high school production came on quick throws behind the line and on vertical routes. He needs to develop intermediate routes (digs, curls, deep outs) and learn to read coverage at speed
• Level of competition: he played in the private-school VISSA league, so it is unproven whether his play-strength advantage holds up against ACC-caliber defensive backs

College Projection

Virginia Tech coaches expect him to contribute early. In 2026 fall camp, offensive coordinator Ty Howle named Brown among the candidates for the third starting receiver spot. A realistic path is a rotational role plus return duties as a true freshman in 2026, with a play package built around motion, screens and quick throws that gets him the ball in space. If his route running and hip fluidity improve, he projects as a starting outside or big-slot receiver by 2027-28. If they don't, he still profiles as a valuable gadget and slot option who makes plays after the catch.

NFL Outlook

Day 3 / priority free agent upside, depending on development. His size, sub-4.5 speed and strength after the catch give him a pro-style build. His draft stock will depend on whether he shows he can separate on intermediate routes against ACC press coverage. Return ability and special-teams value would help his case. A realistic ceiling is a big-slot or YAC-focused receiver in the NFL, similar to how teams use strong, physical receivers in screen and motion packages.

Best Fit

A spread offense that uses a lot of motion and creates touches for him (jet sweeps, bubble and tunnel screens, RPO quick throws) and uses him as a big slot or movement 'Z' receiver instead of asking him to beat press coverage as a traditional outside 'X'. Virginia Tech's offense under Ty Howle, where early special-teams snaps are available, is a sound fit.
