Play Style

He is a separator at all three levels of the field. His best work is from the slot: vertical seams and posts, option routes, and quick throws designed to get the ball in his hands in space. When he builds speed, defenders can't recover. After the catch he makes the first man miss and then outruns everyone else. He also dominated the 7-on-7 circuit, a sign of how smoothly he reads and runs routes against spread coverage.

Strengths

• Game speed that matches his track times (10.59 100m / 21.66 200m). He wins deep from the slot and forces safeties to respect him on every snap.
• Rare production over his career: 163 catches, 3,614 yards (22.2 yards per catch) and 49 TDs. As a senior he had 58 catches, 1,275 yards and 18 TDs, after 33 catches, 829 yards and 12 TDs in nine games as a junior.
• Scores after the catch. His acceleration and elusiveness turn short catches into long gains, and he gives Clemson a big-play weapon it has sometimes lacked.
• Hands over 10 inches let him catch cleanly away from his body and hold on through contact.
• Returns kicks too: he has an 85-yard punt-return TD on film, which gives him a way to contribute right away.

Areas to Improve

• Getting off press coverage and playing through contact outside. At his size, bigger college corners will reroute him if he can't use his hands and footwork to get free at the line.
• Needs more strength to hold up as a blocker in the run game and to win contested catches against college defensive backs.
• Route detail against zone coverage. In high school his speed covered for loose timing. In college he'll need to throttle down, find open spots, and stay on the same page as his QB.

College Projection

As an early enrollee, he has been named to ESPN's list of freshmen ready to make an immediate impact and has drawn heavy preseason hype at Clemson. The most likely Year 1 role is a rotational slot receiver and return man on a deep receiver room, with a clear path to starting in the slot by Year 2. His ceiling is a featured slot receiver and all-conference player who produces big plays.

NFL Outlook

His profile fits Day 2 of the draft, with a higher ceiling if he adds strength and shows he can beat press coverage. NFL teams value slot receivers with verified track speed and strong return value. Size will limit him to the inside for most teams. His draft stock will depend on how well he runs routes against man coverage and how productive he is against ACC defenses.

Best Fit

A spread, vertical passing offense that moves its slot receiver around with motion, uses him on RPO quick throws and deep shots up the seam, and puts him on returns. Clemson's offense fits well. He would be less valuable in a pro-style offense built on big outside receivers and contested-catch throws.
