Scouting Report
DeMarrion Johnson is a 4-star Offensive Tackle from Tyler, TX (Tyler Legacy High School) in the 2027 class. Ranked No. 248 nationally, No. 37 at OT, No. 42 in TX. Composite rating: 0.9133. Committed to Texas A&M University since August 11, 2025.
Physical Profile
Listed at 6-5, 295 lbs. Taller than 8% and heavier than 65% of 2027 Offensive Tackle prospects in the SEC Scouts database (37 with a listed size).
Play Style
He is a length-based left tackle who wins mainly in pass protection by using his reach to take away the edge and ride rushers wide. Having started at LT since ninth grade, he shows the calm set and awareness of a veteran, handling stunts and twists he has seen for years. In the run game he is most effective on down blocks and reach-and-seal zone plays, where his wingspan lets him seal the edge; his size lets him move defenders off the ball once he gets his hands inside. The rating gap across services suggests his film is dominant in reps where he wins with his frame, with room to improve how consistently he finishes and plays with low pad level.
Strengths
- Length and frame for blindside tackle. At 6-7/300 he can meet speed rushers at the top of the arc and redirect them past the quarterback, instead of relying on quick feet alone.
- Unusual experience for a prospect: he has started at left tackle at a large 6A-level Texas program since he was a freshman. That means three-plus varsity seasons against Texas pass rushers, far more pass-protection reps than most 2027 OL.
- Proven production and recognition: 2nd-team all-district in 2025, first-team offensive line on SI's 2026 Texas preseason all-state team, and a 247 profile that climbed to 'Top 100 junior' status after his No. 135 / No. 12 OT ranking at commitment.
- Stable, committed recruit who has actively recruited other prospects for A&M. Holding firm through a direct Texas push points to a low flip risk and the kind of buy-in that speeds early development.
Areas to Improve
- Pad level and leverage. Tall high school tackles tend to play upright in the run game and lose the leverage battle against compact college defensive linemen. Sinking his hips at the point of attack is the main key to being ready to play early.
- Adding functional mass and anchor strength. He needs to go from 300 to roughly 315 without losing foot quickness, so he can hold up against power and bull rushes from SEC-caliber ends and 4i techniques.
- Hand technique against counters. High school length lets tackles win just by reaching their man first. Against college rushers he'll need a more timed, varied punch and quicker recovery against inside counters and spin moves.
College Projection
He should redshirt or play limited snaps as a true freshman at Texas A&M in 2027 while adding 15-20 pounds and adapting to SEC speed. He projects as a swing tackle by 2028 and a multi-year starter at left or right tackle from 2029 on. If his strength gains come quickly, his experience could put him in the two-deep during his first season. If tackle doesn't work out, his frame and length make guard a realistic fallback.
NFL Outlook
Tall, long offensive tackles with multi-year SEC starting résumés are consistently drafted. If he adds mass while keeping his foot speed, he has a Day 2 ceiling, with Round 1 possible if he develops into a dominant pass protector at left tackle. A more realistic mid-range outcome is a Day 3 pick as a swing tackle whose length is his main selling point. His draft stock will depend mainly on his anchor and ability to play with low pad level, not on his frame.
Best Fit
A pro-style or multiple offense with a heavy pass-protection load and outside-zone running game, where length at the tackle spot is a major advantage, which describes Texas A&M's current system. The best fit is a program with a strong strength-and-conditioning staff and an offensive line coach who develops technique. A&M's ability to redshirt him behind veteran tackles fits his development timeline well.
