Krew Jones is a 4-star Edge Rusher from Orem, UT (Orem High School) in the 2027 class. Ranked No. 179 nationally, No. 6 at EDGE, No. 2 in UT. Composite rating: 0.9284. Committed to University of Oklahoma since November 28, 2025.

Physical Profile

Listed at 6-4, 230 lbs. Taller than 35% and heavier than 35% of 2027 Edge Rusher prospects in the SEC Scouts database (26 with a listed size).

Play Style

He plays as a high-motor, attacking edge who wins early in the rep. He fires off the ball, strikes first with his hands and turns the corner quickly, and offenses have responded with doubles, chips and run plays aimed away from him. He keeps producing despite that, which suggests real rush instincts rather than a pure athletic mismatch. His forced-fumble and batted-ball numbers show he plays with his hands and is ball-aware when he gets home. He also has range to pursue plays, reflected in high tackle totals (93 as a sophomore, 66-80 as a junior) that are unusual for a pass-rush specialist.

Strengths

  • Sustained pass-rush production against extra attention: 12 sacks and 6 forced fumbles as a sophomore, then 14.5-16 sacks as a junior (sources differ) with about 30 QB hurries, while opponents doubled him, chipped him and ran plays away from him
  • Disruption behind the line beyond sacks: 17 TFL as a sophomore, up to 26 TFL as a junior, plus batted passes (4 as a junior, 6 PBU as a sophomore) and 3 fumble recoveries, showing he finishes plays and uses his length when he can't get home
  • Explosive first step and fast, physical hands, the traits evaluators single out as giving HS linemen fits; these carry over best to college because they don't depend on outsizing the tackle
  • Proven winner with strong makeup: anchored a 14-0 Ridgeline team to the 4A state title, is a two-time first-team All-State pick and Gatorade State POY, carries a 3.99 GPA, and moved up to Class 5A champion Orem for his senior year

Areas to Improve

  • Adding mass and anchor strength: at about 230 lbs he needs 20-25 lbs of good weight to hold the edge against 310+ lb college tackles and avoid being washed out on down-hill runs. For now he is more rusher than every-down end
  • Proving it against a higher level of play: his dominant numbers came mostly at 4A in Utah. Early 2026 production at 5A Orem (about 4 sacks early in the season per MaxPreps) is solid but not the pace of 2025, so evaluators will want to see him keep up the disruption and develop counter moves as offenses scheme around him
  • Refining his rush plan beyond speed-plus-hands: a two-move sequence (speed-to-power, inside counter) and setting up tackles will matter once his get-off stops winning cleanly

College Projection

He projects to Oklahoma's Jack/stand-up edge or a weak-side DE role. Expect him to work in as a situational pass rusher in Year 1 (2027) while he adds weight, with a redshirt possible depending on OU's depth, and to play a real rotational role by Year 2. By Year 3 (2029), if he reaches 250-255 lbs and keeps his burst, he has a realistic path to multi-year Power Four starter.

NFL Outlook

He has Day 2 upside with Day 1 potential if the weight gain goes well. The length, first step, hand quality and ball production are what NFL teams look for in edge rushers, and some scouts already call him a future early draft pick. His outcome depends on reaching 250+ lbs while keeping his explosiveness and on turning HS production into SEC production. The likeliest path is a 3-4 year college career ending in the 2030 or 2031 draft.

Best Fit

A multiple front that lets him rush from a two-point stance as a Jack/OLB-edge on passing downs and reduce inside only in select packages. It should also have a strong strength and nutrition program to add weight over two years. Oklahoma's aggressive, pressure-heavy SEC defense under Brent Venables is close to ideal, since it values long, explosive edges who can rush, drop occasionally and chase.
