Play Style

A timing-and-rhythm pocket passer who plays like a point guard. He reads fast, gets the ball out on time, and attacks the middle of the field between the second and third levels with firm throws on a line. He works within the structure of the offense rather than improvising. He climbs or slides a step to buy time instead of taking off, and when he does leave the pocket it's usually to throw. Years of starting show up in his pre-snap command and how rarely he makes an ill-advised throw. He'll push the ball deep when he's given single coverage, but his game is built on completion percentage and staying on schedule rather than big plays.

Strengths

• Production and experience: he has started for a 7A power since the 2022 season, when he was in eighth grade, and led Thompson to a state title that year. He won another in 2024 and is reported as a three-time state champion. He broke Jack Hayes' AHSAA career passing record of 11,024 yards in Week 3 of 2026 against Vestavia Hills and entered that game with 111 career touchdowns.
• Accuracy and ball placement at the intermediate level: evaluators say he 'wins with accuracy, timing and IQ' and fits passes on tight lines over underneath defenders. His efficiency backs this up: 41-of-52 for 625 yards and 8 TDs through the first two games of 2026, and 891 yards and 11 TDs through three.
• Poise and feel for pressure: scouts describe him as calm, reacting quickly to pressure while keeping his eyes downfield and using small pocket movements to reset. That fits someone who has read 7A varsity defenses since age 14. He was also invited to the Elite 11 Finals, where 247Sports praised his accuracy, footwork and mental makeup.
• Mechanics and background: born in Hawaii, he trained alongside Tua and Taulia Tagovailoa. His footwork and throwing motion are polished for his age, and he is described as a coachable, quiet leader.

Areas to Improve

• Size and throwing lanes: at a listed 6-1, he has to keep proving he can find throwing windows and keep his release fast against SEC-length defensive linemen. Adding play strength without losing his quick release is the key physical goal.
• Top-end arm and creating outside structure: his arm is very good but not elite, and he is a rhythm passer rather than a playmaker who extends plays. He needs to show he can make off-platform throws and field-side outs with power, and that he can handle a heavy SEC pass rush when the first read is taken away. High school production against a mismatched 7A schedule overstates how ready he is.

College Projection

He is expected to enroll early and redshirt or serve as the No. 3 quarterback as a true freshman in 2027. The QB room will likely also include the class's 5-star QB commit, Elijah Haven, so the depth chart will be crowded, and portal competition is almost certain. His realistic path is to compete for QB2 in year two and contend for the starting job in year three (2029) once his body and processing have caught up to SEC speed. His early playing time depends on how quickly he adds play strength. His ceiling is a multi-year SEC starter who wins with efficiency. His floor is a highly dependable backup whose experience makes him valuable in the portal market.

NFL Outlook

He's a Day 2–3 draft candidate if he becomes a multi-year SEC starter. Accuracy, anticipation and processing translate to the NFL, but a sub-6-2 frame and an arm that isn't elite will cap his grade unless he shows exceptional anticipation and production, as Bryce Young did. The most likely outcome is a mid-round developmental prospect or a long-term NFL backup whose projection depends heavily on his college efficiency numbers.

Best Fit

A pro-style or RPO spread built on timing and quick decisions, where the quarterback is paid to process pre-snap, hit intermediate windows on rhythm and distribute the ball rather than carry the offense as a runner. Kalen DeBoer's quick-game and play-action system at Alabama is a strong schematic fit. Offenses built on designed quarterback runs or constant off-script play would undersell his strengths.
