Scouting Report
Elijah Melendez is a 4-star Linebacker from Kissimmee, FL (Osceola) in the 2025 class. Ranked No. 176 nationally. Composite rating: 0.9296. Committed to Auburn University.
Physical Profile
Listed at 6-0, 240 lbs. Taller than 7% and heavier than 92% of 2025 Linebacker prospects in the SEC Scouts database (136 with a listed size).
Play Style
Based on his ranking profile and Auburn's defensive scheme preferences, likely projects as a versatile linebacker who can cover ground sideline-to-sideline. His Florida background suggests familiarity with spread offenses and ability to handle coverage responsibilities against athletic skill players common in the region.
Strengths
- Elite national ranking (#176 overall) indicates exceptional talent evaluation by major recruiting services despite limited exposure
- Florida pedigree from a talent-rich state known for producing college-ready defensive players
- Strong composite rating (0.9296) suggests consistent evaluation across multiple platforms, indicating legitimate high-level ability
Areas to Improve
- Exposure and marketing - minimal recruiting buzz despite elite ranking suggests need for better showcase opportunities
- Competition level validation - needs to prove ranking against top-tier opponents to match recruiting interest with on-field performance
College Projection
Should contribute early at Auburn given their need for linebacker depth and his ranking credentials. Projects as a potential starter by sophomore year if he can quickly adapt to SEC speed and physicality, with his rating suggesting he has the tools to develop into an impact player.
NFL Outlook
Too early to project given limited data, but his 4-star rating and top-200 national ranking indicate he possesses traits that could translate to professional consideration if he develops properly at Auburn
Best Fit
SEC programs that utilize multiple linebacker sets and emphasize speed over size, particularly teams that face high-tempo spread offenses requiring athletic coverage linebackers who can handle space
Player Comparison
Jones shares the same compact 6'0", 228-pound frame with elite sideline-to-sideline range and coverage ability that made him a second-round NFL pick. Both prospects come from the SEC with similar recruiting profiles as highly-rated but not elite-tier linebackers who project as versatile defenders capable of handling modern spread offenses and coverage responsibilities.
