Play Style

Henderson is a fast, aggressive chess-piece linebacker who plays downhill. On film he shows a quick first step whether he rushes from a walked-up spot or triggers from depth. Off the edge he gets low and bends around the corner with his long arms keeping blockers from locking onto him. In space he takes good angles, stops and restarts well, and arrives with bad intentions, often going for the ball. He reacts quickly to throws and closes fast, which shows up as pass breakups and hits on the catch. He is at his best when he can play fast and attack, as a blitzer, spy or edge-setter, rather than sitting as a traditional run-stuffing middle linebacker.

Strengths

• Pass-rush production from the second level: 9 sacks and 13 tackles for loss as a junior, even though he missed five games with an injury. 247Sports praised his get-off and bend off the edge 'despite being under 6-foot-2.'
• Can cover in space: he turns his hips and changes direction easily for a linebacker, so he can match running backs and tight ends instead of being taken off the field on passing downs.
• Plays with violence and finishes tackles. His fast start, bend and long arms produce hits with real momentum behind them. He had 2 forced fumbles and 1 fumble recovery as a junior and 219 career tackles since his freshman year.
• Reads throws and reacts quickly, with strong closing speed to the ball (4 pass breakups as a junior).
• Versatile: he can line up in a two-point stance as an off-ball backer, a walked-up edge player or a blitzer, which lets a defense show different fronts without substituting.

Areas to Improve

• Taking on blocks between the tackles. At 6-1 he has to win with hand use and leverage when guards climb to him at the second level, and he needs to shed consistently instead of relying on speed to avoid blockers.
• Durability and play strength. He missed five games as a junior, so adding functional mass without losing the explosiveness that sets him apart is the main job for his first college strength program.
• Mental processing as a full-time off-ball linebacker. Much of his production came from rushing the passer, so his run fits, gap discipline and pre-snap communication will need refinement before he runs a college defense.
• Pass-rush plan. He wins mostly with get-off and bend, and against SEC offensive tackles he will need counter moves and better hand combinations.

College Projection

Special-teams contributor and situational pass-rusher or third-down blitzer as a true freshman in 2027. Mike Elko's defenses have historically used hybrid linebackers who can rush and cover, which makes this a natural fit. He projects to compete for a starting job at weakside or star linebacker by his second season, once he adds 8-12 pounds and gets more comfortable with run fits. If he stays healthy, he has the ceiling of a multi-year starter and all-conference linebacker, with his sack and tackle-for-loss numbers making him an impact player.

NFL Outlook

He has Day 1-2 NFL Draft potential. The NFL increasingly values linebackers who can rush the passer and cover, and his 34-inch arms help offset scouts' concerns about his height. His draft stock will depend on proving he can take on and shed blocks inside and on staying healthy. If he produces as a three-down linebacker with double-digit tackles for loss in the SEC, he profiles as an early-round pick as a WILL linebacker or pressure linebacker in a multiple-front scheme.

Best Fit

An aggressive, multiple-front defense that uses a hybrid WILL, star or pressure linebacker and moves him around with simulated pressures and creepers, so he can rush from the second level, spy the quarterback and cover backs. Texas A&M's defense under Elko fits that profile well. A traditional 4-3 that asks him to be a 240-pound MIKE taking on guards every down would waste his best traits.
