Scouting Report
Kennedy Green is a 4-star Safety from Douglasville, GA (Douglas County High School) in the 2027 class. Ranked No. 374 nationally, No. 20 at S. Composite rating: 0.8969. Committed to Mississippi State University.
Physical Profile
Listed at 6-1, 200 lbs. Taller than 44% and heavier than 84% of 2027 Safety prospects in the SEC Scouts database (32 with a listed size).
Play Style
A rangy hybrid defensive back who is most comfortable as a nickel or overhang defender, and he can rotate to the deep middle. He uses his length to sit in passing lanes and reach back for throws. He fills alleys aggressively and goes after the ball in tackles, as his forced fumbles show. In the slot he wins with reach and physical press more than foot quickness, which fits a matchup defender against tight ends and big slot receivers.
Strengths
- Length that changes the catch point: the ~6-8 wingspan widens his tackle radius, gets his hands on passes in zone and lets him play press or trail technique against slot receivers.
- Scheme versatility shown on film: as a junior he played both deep-middle safety and slot/nickel, which fits defenses that change their pre-snap looks. Evaluators call him a 'new-age nickel' for this reason.
- Makes plays on the ball: his 2025 junior line was 12 games, 56 tackles, 2 INTs, 2 forced fumbles and 1 pass breakup. Two forced fumbles alongside two picks suggest he attacks the ball, not just the ball carrier.
- Wide P4 interest: about 41 offers and official visits to all three finalists (Miss State, South Carolina, UNC). SEC and ACC staffs broadly agree he is a Power Four prospect, even though his composite rank sits in the high 300s.
Areas to Improve
- Play strength and weight: at 185-195 on a 6-2 frame he needs to get bigger before he can take on pulling guards and set the edge as a box or nickel defender against SEC run games.
- Consistency in coverage and production: one PBU in 12 junior games is low for a defensive back this long. He needs to show more hands-on disruption, reliable eye discipline in zone and smoother change of direction when he matches quick slot receivers man-to-man.
- Proving his speed: without verified 40 or track times, evaluators can't yet tell whether he has the deep speed to play single-high, or whether he is best kept near the line of scrimmage.
College Projection
Likely redshirt or special-teams role in year one while he adds 10-15 pounds. By year two he could rotate at nickel/star or strong safety in Arnett's multiple 3-down defense, which values long, versatile defensive backs. He could become a starter in years 2-3. His On3 grade (No. 182) suggests an earlier timeline than his 247 Composite rank does. His recommitment was driven by the defensive coordinator, so if Arnett leaves Starkville, Green becomes a real flip risk.
NFL Outlook
As a 4-star with unusual length, he has a real mid-to-late-round draft profile if he reaches 205-210 and tests well. The NFL values long nickels and hybrid safeties who can cover tight ends. Any Day 2 case depends on verified speed and more ball production than his junior season shows. The most likely path is a multi-year SEC starter who is a Day 3 candidate.
Best Fit
A defense built on a multiple 3-safety or 4-2-5 structure with a dedicated star/nickel position that rewards length in zone-match coverage. Mississippi State under Zach Arnett fits well. South Carolina and UNC, his other finalists, run comparable looks that would also make sense.
