Braylon Calais is a 4-star Wide Receiver from Cecilia, LA (Cecilia High School) in the 2027 class. Ranked No. 189 nationally, No. 20 at WR. Composite rating: 0.9267. Committed to Louisiana State University.

Physical Profile

Listed at 6-2, 205 lbs. Taller than 67% and heavier than 92% of 2027 Wide Receiver prospects in the SEC Scouts database (36 with a listed size).

Play Style

Cecilia uses him as a Swiss Army knife. He lines up in the slot and out wide, takes handoffs, returns kicks and has run the offense at quarterback this fall. On tape he plays downhill and aggressive with the ball, carries a running back's mindset into catch-and-run situations, runs through arm tackles and turns short throws into chunk gains. He is most dangerous on quick game, screens and jet-motion touches and in the red zone, where his size and leaping ability show up. He is less of a finished vertical route-runner than a physical playmaker who wins after the catch.

Strengths

  • Production across the whole offense: 32 total touchdowns and 2,576 all-purpose yards as a junior in 2025, split across receiver, running back, quarterback and returner.
  • Runs well after the catch. His running back experience shows up in his vision and contact balance: 13 carries, 87 yards and 3 TDs plus 6 catches for 69 yards in a 44-21 win over Teurlings in 2026.
  • Basketball background: body control, high-pointing the ball and footwork in traffic give him a real advantage on 50-50 balls and in the red zone.
  • Versatility and football IQ: the staff trusted him to take quarterback snaps after an injury at QB, which points to feel for the offense and leadership, not just athletic ability.

Areas to Improve

  • Route running at a receiver's level of detail. He has split time between running back, quarterback and the secondary, so his route tree, release package against press and top-of-route precision are behind those of full-time receivers.
  • Long speed and top gear. A 4.5 at 200+ lbs is solid, but to separate vertically against SEC corners he needs to keep his weight in check and add burst, or he will be limited to a big-slot or possession role.
  • Consistent hands and blocking on the perimeter, both of which get less work when a player is used as the offense's main ball carrier.

College Projection

Big-slot or boundary receiver at LSU. He will probably get special-teams and gadget/package snaps as a freshman in 2027, with a real chance to be a rotation receiver by year two once his routes catch up. His floor is solid: he can move to running back, H-back or safety if needed. His ceiling is a volume-catch SEC starter used on screens, RPO glance routes and red-zone fades.

NFL Outlook

Legitimate Day 2–3 draft potential if he settles at one position and his receiver skills develop. Teams value his size and speed combination with his yards-after-catch ability as a big slot or 'Z'. Whether he reaches a higher tier depends on two things: showing he can separate from press coverage as a full-time receiver, and keeping his speed while carrying 205-215 lbs. His multi-position history also gives him special-teams value at the next level.

Best Fit

A spread or RPO offense with a lot of motion that moves a big receiver around to create mismatches: jet sweeps, screens, choice routes and red-zone isolation. Lane Kiffin's system at LSU is close to ideal because it schemes touches for versatile playmakers and uses big slots heavily. His Acadiana roots also make LSU a natural fit culturally.
