Scouting Report
Taurean Rawlins is a 4-star Wide Receiver from Atlanta, GA (Mount Vernon Presbyterian) in the 2027 class. Ranked No. 434 nationally, No. 56 at WR. Composite rating: 0.8911. Committed to University of Georgia.
Physical Profile
Listed at 6-0, 180 lbs. Taller than 36% and heavier than 25% of 2027 Wide Receiver prospects in the SEC Scouts database (36 with a listed size).
Play Style
A field-stretching flanker who wins with acceleration and top-end speed. His production (20+ yards per catch, 19 TDs) points to a receiver used on verticals, posts and catch-and-run concepts, who flips short throws into explosive plays once he has space. He fits motion-heavy concepts that let him build speed before the snap, and he gives defenses a constant deep threat that forces safeties to stay honest.
Strengths
- Proven vertical speed: sub-10.7 100m times turn into chunk plays, and a 20.4 yards-per-catch average on 70 catches shows the speed is not limited to a few long touchdowns
- High-volume production: 1,430 yards and 19 TDs in 12 games means he was the focal point of the offense and still produced when defenses planned for him
- Z/motion versatility: his speed-to-size profile fits the McConkey-style role Georgia's receivers coach James Coley described, using pre-snap motion, crossers, jet sweeps and deep overs where his acceleration beats angles
- Pro-level coaching: he has been developed by former Georgia receiver Terrence Edwards, which should give him a head start on route detail and on what the Georgia receiver room expects
Areas to Improve
- Play strength and mass: at 170-175 lbs he has to add weight without losing speed to get off press coverage, win contested catches and hold up as a perimeter blocker, which Georgia requires of its receivers
- Route craft against better competition: his big-play production at the Atlanta private-school level came partly from pure speed, so he needs to show tempo changes, stem manipulation and clean breaks on intermediate routes against SEC-caliber corners
- Catch-point play: without a size advantage he has to become reliable in traffic and on 50/50 balls rather than depending only on separation
College Projection
He will likely redshirt or play a limited 2027 role on special teams and in speed packages while he adds weight. Georgia's receiver room is typically deep, so a realistic timeline is rotational snaps in year 2 and a contending starter at Z in years 3-4, depending on strength gains and route development. Kick return is a plausible early path onto the field given his track speed.
NFL Outlook
He carries mid-round-plus upside if he adds mass while keeping his speed. Verified 10.6-range speed with SEC production at a slot/Z spot has a clear NFL template. His current consensus ranking is three-star, below the stored four-star tag, so the draft outlook depends on his development curve and not on his current ranking. The likely ceiling is a Day 2-3 speed receiver or returner if he becomes a multi-year producer at Georgia.
Best Fit
A pro-style or multiple offense that uses heavy pre-snap motion and puts its flanker in space: crossers, deep overs, jet motion and play-action shots. Georgia's Z role, which Coley has already described for him, fits well, with a strength program that can add mass over two years without slowing him down.
