Scouting Report
Rance Brown is a 3-star Offensive Tackle from Brentwood, TN (Brentwood Academy) in the 2027 class. Ranked No. 805 nationally, No. 62 at OT. Composite rating: 0.8756. Committed to Auburn University.
Physical Profile
Listed at 6-6, 285 lbs. Taller than 46% and heavier than 27% of 2027 Offensive Tackle prospects in the SEC Scouts database (37 with a listed size).
Play Style
Brown's Hudl film from his sophomore (2024) and junior (2025) seasons at Southside shows a length-first tackle. He uses his reach to steer defenders on outside zone and to cut off rushers' angles in pass protection, and evaluators described him as dominant at the high school level. Like most 6-6 prep tackles, he wins first with size and length. His development will depend on keeping a firm anchor and finishing blocks once he faces defenders his own size.
Strengths
- True tackle length and height (6-6): he can play on the edge in college instead of having to move inside to guard.
- Strong Power 4 interest: Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia Tech, UNC, Indiana, Stanford, Maryland, Duke, Virginia and Arizona all recruited him. The Stanford, Duke and Virginia interest also suggests good academic standing.
- Three years of varsity experience at Alabama 6A Southside, followed by a senior year at Brentwood Academy, one of Tennessee's top private-school programs. That should test him against better competition each week.
- Big room to grow: a frame that is still filling out gives a college strength staff a lot to build on, so his ceiling is higher than a typical 3-star tackle's.
Areas to Improve
- Adding mass and functional strength: he needs to reach about 305+ pounds and build lower-body power so speed-to-power rushers don't collapse the pocket on him.
- Pad level and hand technique: tall high-school tackles often play upright and rely on reach. He needs consistent inside hand placement and to win with leverage, not just length, against SEC edge rushers.
- Proving himself against better competition: his senior year at Brentwood Academy is the first chance to show his Alabama film holds up against stronger opposition.
College Projection
He projects as a redshirt in 2027 while he adds strength. He would then compete for the swing-tackle job in 2028 and could become a starter by 2029 (his redshirt sophomore year) if the weight gain goes as planned. He is one of three offensive line commits in Auburn's 2027 class, alongside 4-star OT Layton von Brandt and 3-star Jaylon Moore. That gives Alex Golesh's staff room to bring him along without forcing him onto the field early.
Best Fit
A program with a patient OL development track and a strong strength and conditioning staff, running a zone-heavy or RPO spread that values length and movement over pure mauling. Auburn under Golesh is a good fit, and the commitment also brings him home: he grew up in Alabama and called Auburn 'home.'
