Scouting Report
Jabari Watkins is a 4-star Wide Receiver from Thomasville, GA (Thomas County Central High School) in the 2027 class. Ranked No. 365 nationally, No. 66 at WR. Composite rating: 0.8978. Committed to University of Arkansas.
Physical Profile
Listed at 6-2, 185 lbs. Taller than 67% and heavier than 53% of 2027 Wide Receiver prospects in the SEC Scouts database (36 with a listed size).
Play Style
Watkins plays as a boundary or outside receiver who threatens deep on every snap. He wins with long speed on go routes, posts and deep outs, and his stride makes cushions disappear quickly. He tracks the deep ball well and finishes at its highest point, which makes him a reliable 50/50 target. His game is built on vertical routes and contested catches more than separation in short and intermediate areas. The Thomas County Central offense spread the ball around, so he produced efficiently rather than dominating volume. Expect a player whose presence stretches coverages and opens underneath routes for teammates, and who makes big plays in chunks.
Strengths
- Vertical speed: a 10.94 100m with a 6-2 frame makes him a real field-stretcher. As a sophomore he averaged 17.7 yards per catch (39-692-5), showing he can take the top off a coverage
- Catches the ball in the air: long arms and good body control on 50/50 balls and back-shoulder throws. 247 grades his aerial ability as above average, and it shows on contested downfield targets
- Production that grew against strong competition: 94 catches, 1,539 yards and 16 TDs over two seasons at a Georgia power program. He was a primary target on a 15-0 state title team and opened 2026 with 5 catches for 82 yards against Colquitt County
- Sought after nationally: about 37 offers, including Georgia, Florida State, Texas A&M, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Mississippi State, UCLA and Louisville. Evaluators across the SEC and ACC rate his tools well above his mid-four-star ranking
Areas to Improve
- Play strength and weight: his wiry build needs 10-15 lbs of functional mass to beat press at the line, fight through contact downfield, and block on the perimeter in the SEC
- Route tree and yards after catch: his catch rate dipped from 17.7 to 15.4 yards per catch as his role grew. He needs sharper breaks on intermediate routes (dig, curl, comeback) and more wiggle after the catch to become more than a vertical-only 'X' receiver
- Beating press coverage: he has seen little of the physical, hands-on man coverage he'll face in the SEC, so his release package needs development
College Projection
He'll likely be a year-one contributor on the rotation and special teams at Arkansas, possibly redshirting while he adds weight in the strength program. 247 projects him as a Power 4 field-stretcher who can become a multi-year starter. A realistic path is a rotational deep threat as a redshirt freshman or sophomore, then a starter at the boundary 'X' or field 'Z' spot by year 2-3, once he's around 195-200 lbs and his route running has matured.
NFL Outlook
He's a mid-range Day 3 prospect with upside. A 6-2 receiver who runs sub-11 in the 100m and catches the ball well in the air matches what NFL teams look for in an outside receiver. His draft stock depends on adding play strength and proving he can separate on intermediate routes against SEC corners. If he gets to 200 lbs with his speed intact and puts together one or two productive seasons as a starter, a Day 2 grade is realistic. If he stays a lean, vertical-only receiver, he projects as a late-round or priority free agent special-teams/WR4 type.
Best Fit
An up-tempo spread or RPO offense that uses play-action shots and isolates the boundary receiver, with an established strength program that can add mass without costing him speed. Arkansas fits well: it recruited him as a vertical outside target in an SEC offense that needs explosive plays. He is at his best as the deep and contested-catch weapon while shiftier receivers handle underneath routes.
