Avrian Pauley is a 3-star Edge Rusher from Mobile, AL (McGill-Toolen Catholic High School) in the 2027 class. Ranked No. 753 nationally, No. 84 at EDGE. Composite rating: 0.8767. Committed to University of Alabama.

Physical Profile

Listed at 6-4, 240 lbs. Taller than 35% and heavier than 73% of 2027 Edge Rusher prospects in the SEC Scouts database (26 with a listed size).

Play Style

On film he looks like a length-based edge or 5-technique defender. He plays with a long first strike to control blockers, sets the edge against the run, and uses his reach to close throwing and running lanes. He was reported to have an impressive spring game in May 2026, and his snaps show a player more comfortable stacking and shedding than winning with speed off the snap. He projects as a two-gap-capable front player who gets home on effort and length now, with pass-rush refinement still ahead.

Strengths

  • Length and frame: a 6-5 build with long levers gives him reach advantages on run fits and room to add 25–35 pounds of good weight. Projecting the frame is the main reason Alabama offered in September 2025, which was his first Power 4 offer.
  • Versatility across the front: ESPN lists him at defensive end and 247 at defensive line. His size lets him play a 4i/5-technique on early downs and move to 3-technique in sub-packages as he gets bigger.
  • Strong recruiting validation for his rating: offers from Alabama, Florida State, Michigan, Ole Miss, Tennessee and Florida are above what a typical #500–750 national prospect pulls. That suggests evaluators see more upside than the composite shows.
  • Experienced trench program: he anchors one of McGill-Toolen's most veteran defensive fronts heading into 2026, at a 7A program that plays strong Gulf Coast competition every week.

Areas to Improve

  • Add mass and play strength: at 255–265, he has to get to roughly 280-plus and build a lower-body anchor before he can hold up against SEC double teams on the interior.
  • Turn length into pass-rush production: there are no verified high-school sack or tackle-for-loss numbers, and his ranking points to a rush plan that is still developing. He needs a reliable long-arm and a counter move so that he wins with technique, not just reach.
  • Pad level: tall linemen tend to play high. Staying low out of his stance, especially if he moves inside, will decide whether he can hold the point of attack.

College Projection

He is a developmental redshirt candidate in 2027, working on his body and technique under DL coach Freddie Roach and DC Kane Wommack, who were the two relationships he cited for committing and staying committed. The realistic path is a rotational defensive end or 4i role by year 2–3 (2028–29) at around 280–290 pounds. If his strength gains come early, he could compete for a starting spot by year 3 or 4. His floor is a reliable depth piece and special-teams body; his ceiling is a multi-year starter as a big end who can move inside.

Best Fit

His best fit is a multiple 3-4/4-3 hybrid front, which is what Alabama runs under Wommack, where a long, big-bodied end can play 4i/5-technique on early downs and move inside on passing downs. He needs a program with a patient development timeline and a strong strength-and-conditioning staff, because his value grows with each year of physical maturity. Staying home in-state with coaches he trusts suits his development profile.
