Tyler Younger is a 3-star Edge Rusher from Norcross, GA (Greater Atlanta Christian School) in the 2027 class. Ranked No. 753 nationally, No. 101 at EDGE. Composite rating: 0.8767. Committed to University of Alabama.

Physical Profile

Listed at 6-5, 215 lbs. Taller than 69% and heavier than 0% of 2027 Edge Rusher prospects in the SEC Scouts database (26 with a listed size).

Play Style

Younger is a long, upright edge defender who uses his reach to get into blockers and disrupt plays behind the line. His junior stats (low tackle total, high share of TFLs) suggest a disruptor more than a high-volume tackler. He is not yet the kind of player who chases plays across the field from the backside. Alabama projecting him at Wolf implies he is comfortable standing up and working in space, not only rushing from a three-point stance. His senior season at GAC, playing beside FSU commit CJ Ohuabunwa, is the key test of whether his production starts to match his frame.

Strengths

  • Length and frame: at 6-5 he has a long build that should handle 25-30 more pounds, and that kind of frame is the main reason he went from a mid-major-level offer list to an SEC take
  • Wins at contact: his 4.5 tackles for loss on only 16 total tackles as a junior (MaxPreps, 10 games) show that when he makes a play, it tends to be in the backfield
  • Fits a hybrid role: Alabama recruited him as a Wolf, which suggests he has enough movement for stand-up rush, spill and short-zone drops, not just three-point rushing
  • Strong offer list for a three-star: about two dozen offers, with Power Four interest from Alabama, Stanford, Rutgers, UCF, Syracuse and Boston College. The Stanford offer points to strong academics and coachability

Areas to Improve

  • Play strength and weight: 230 pounds is not enough to hold the point of attack against SEC tackles. Adding good weight and lower-body power is the first priority, and a redshirt year is likely
  • Production and pass-rush skills: 16 tackles and 2.5 sacks as a junior is modest output. He needs a reliable go-to rush move (long-arm or speed-to-power), a counter, and to finish more of his chances against Georgia's top classifications
  • Run-defense consistency: long, light edge players often get washed down by double teams and down blocks. He needs to keep his pad level low, use his length to lock out blockers, and squeeze running lanes

College Projection

He is a developmental Wolf/OLB who will likely redshirt in 2027 while adding 20-plus pounds in the strength program. He could play special teams and situational pass-rush snaps in his second year, then compete for rotation time at EDGE in his third year (2029). If he reaches 250-plus pounds and adds a counter move, he projects as a multi-year contributor. If the weight comes slowly, his realistic outcome is a depth rusher and special-teams regular.

Best Fit

Younger fits best in a multiple 3-4 or odd-front scheme with a patient development plan, which is what Alabama is offering with its Wolf role and Christian Robinson's emphasis on development. He is best as a two-point edge player who can rush, set the edge and occasionally drop. He would be a poor fit in a four-down front that needs a 260-plus-pound defensive end to play right away.
