Scouting Report

A+
98 / 100 Ceiling 98 • Floor 90
year 1 contributor NFL Rd 3

A high-upside, late-blooming big man with elite length and athletic fluidity for his size. Irving's immediate impact will be as a rim-runner and shot-blocker, but he possesses budding skills as a floor-spacer that give him significant long-term potential.

Physical Profile

Stands at a legitimate 6-foot-10 to 6-foot-11 with a lean, 200-pound frame. While he must add considerable mass and strength to compete in the SEC, his frame has room for growth. His primary physical assets are exceptional mobility, athletic fluidity, and a large catch radius, which allow him to cover the court effortlessly and play above the rim.

Play Style

An active, two-way big who thrives on his athleticism and length. Offensively, he is most effective as a vertical lob threat and a rim-runner who puts pressure on the defense in transition. He has good hands, gets off the floor quickly, and is beginning to expand his game to include mid-range and three-point shooting. Defensively, he is a game-changer at the rim, altering and blocking shots with excellent timing and coverage. He shows the lateral mobility to hedge on screens and recover, showcasing impressive defensive versatility for his size.

Strengths

  • Elite rim protection and shot-blocking instincts, using his great length and timing to serve as a defensive anchor.
  • Excellent mobility and rim-running ability, making him a constant threat in transition and as a lob finisher in pick-and-roll sets.
  • Emerging face-up game with signs of becoming a capable floor-spacer; shows soft touch, confident free-throw shooting (76% in one sample), and the ability to knock down shots out to the three-point line.
  • High motor and plays with energy; praised for sprinting the floor hard and hustling consistently.

Areas to Improve

  • Needs to add significant strength and bulk to his lean frame to handle the physicality of high-major college basketball, improve his rebounding, and finish through contact.
  • Must develop more consistency finishing around the rim on non-dunk attempts and become more forceful in seeking contact to get to the free-throw line more often.
  • Perimeter decision-making and playmaking; can improve his assist-to-turnover ratio when handling the ball away from the basket.

College Projection

Irving projects as a high-impact player at the Power 5 level with the potential to be a multi-year starter at Texas A&M. Given his lean frame, he will likely need a year to acclimate physically to the SEC, but his elite athleticism and shot-blocking should allow him to earn rotational minutes immediately in an up-tempo system. As his body and offensive skill set mature, he has the ceiling to develop into an all-conference caliber big man.

Best Fit

A fast-paced, up-tempo offensive system that values versatile big men who can run the floor, finish in transition, and operate as a screener and lob threat. Texas A&M's 'Bucky Ball' system, which emphasizes pace and pressure, appears to be an excellent fit for his skill set, offering the opportunity for early playing time and development.
