Tennessee Defense Sets Tone in Spring Scrimmage
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Volunteers' defense controlled the first half of the team's second major spring scrimmage on Thursday before the offense found its footing in the second half. The session in Neyland Stadium, which marked the end of the third week of spring practice, provided a crucial evaluation point for the Vols as they build toward the 2026 season.
To better prepare the team for a tough road schedule, the coaching staff introduced simulated crowd noise and road game conditions for the scrimmage. The adjustments reportedly led to improved operations and communication for the quarterbacks and offensive line compared to the first scrimmage. Defensively, newcomers like Penn State transfer defensive tackle Xavier Gilliam made their presence felt. On the offensive side, sophomore tight end DaSaahn Brame recorded an explosive touchdown play, showcasing his development as a complete player.
The Volunteers will hold their annual Orange & White Game on April 11, which will be open to the public and offer fans a look at the team's progress.
