Vanderbilt Spoils Senior Day in Knoxville, Upsets No. 23 Tennessee
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – In a stunning turn of events on the final day of the regular season, the No. 24 Vanderbilt Commodores marched into Food City Center and defeated the No. 23 Tennessee Volunteers 86-82, spoiling Senior Day and throwing a wrench into the SEC Tournament seedings. The Commodores led wire-to-wire, weathering a furious second-half comeback attempt by the Volunteers to secure a significant road victory.
Tennessee, playing without leading rebounder and second-leading scorer Nate Ament for the second consecutive game, dug itself a deep hole early. Vanderbilt jumped out to an 11-0 lead and controlled the first half, taking a 32-22 lead into the locker room as the Vols struggled offensively. Despite a career-high 24 points from freshman guard Amari Evans, Tennessee could not consistently get the defensive stops needed to overcome the deficit. Vanderbilt's offense was efficient throughout, shooting over 52% from the floor and answering every Tennessee run. Tyler Tanner led the charge for Vanderbilt with 25 points, including critical free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.
The loss drops Tennessee to 21-10 on the season (11-7 in SEC play) and eliminates them from contention for a top-four seed and a coveted double-bye in the upcoming SEC Tournament. Vanderbilt's win provides a major boost to their own postseason aspirations, avenging a loss to the Volunteers in Nashville just two weeks prior.

Mizzou Softball Drops Heartbreaker to Florida: In a back-and-forth SEC opener, Missouri softball fell 5-4 to the No. 5 Florida Gators in Gainesville.
