Lowe Enters Transfer Portal After Injury-Shortened Season at Kentucky
Jaland Lowe is entering the transfer portal after a freshman season with the Kentucky Wildcats hampered by a nagging shoulder injury. Lowe appeared in just nine games for Kentucky, showing flashes of the talent that made him a prized recruit before being sidelined. In his limited action, Lowe averaged 8.0 points and 2.4 assists per game.
The injury, a shoulder dislocation, originally occurred during the Blue-White Game in October and was re-aggravated multiple times. Lowe’s father, Marland, spoke on his son's decision, expressing gratitude towards the university and its fanbase. "The University of Kentucky and BBN welcomed Jaland," Marland Lowe said. "He showed his desire and willingness to play for Kentucky basketball and its fans even through three shoulder separations and a shift... As a parent, of course, one would have wanted their child to shut it down, but we expect mental and physical toughness from our sons. He showed what is instilled within him. The effort was clear. We are proud of him."
Marland Lowe added, "We are thankful to Kentucky basketball for the opportunity. Kentucky fans are incredible." Despite the setbacks, the younger Lowe showcased his grit, particularly in a game against St. John’s where he re-injured the shoulder but returned to deliver a gutsy performance.
