Golding Responds to Swinney's Tampering Allegations
Ole Miss head coach Pete Golding broke his silence Tuesday, offering his first public response to tampering allegations levied by Clemson's Dabo Swinney regarding the recruitment of transfer linebacker Luke Ferrelli. Speaking to the media, Golding pushed back on the narrative that Ole Miss acted improperly, stating, "There's two sides to every story."
Swinney publicly accused Golding in January of "blatant tampering," alleging that the Ole Miss staff contacted and recruited Ferrelli after the former California linebacker had already enrolled, attended classes, and participated in team activities at Clemson. Ferrelli, who initially committed to Clemson on January 6, reversed course and signed with Ole Miss just 16 days later. Swinney claimed to have provided the NCAA with evidence of the improper contact.
In his response, Golding provided his version of the timeline, explaining that he had told Ferrelli during an official visit prior to Ole Miss's playoff game that the Rebels wanted him but did not have a spot available at the time. According to Golding, that roster spot only opened up after another linebacker transferred out on January 17, at which point Ole Miss re-engaged with Ferrelli, who he says wanted to be at Ole Miss all along. The situation remains a flashpoint in the ongoing national conversation about NCAA transfer rules and enforcement in the NIL era.
